“Painting isn’t an aesthetic operation: it’s a form of magic designed as a mediator between this strange hostile world and us”.
(Pablo Picasso)
Early one morning in 1901, Picasso arrived in Paris. And that’s the day his future began, in that city. Born in Spain in 1881, he would spend most of his life in Paris, often feeling like an outsider. PICASSO. A REBEL IN PARIS explores Picasso's life and his journey from a poor immigrant to a 20th-century icon.
Directed by Simona Risi, this documentary commemorates the 50th anniversary of Picasso's death, highlighting his life in Paris, the Musée Picasso, and his complex character. Iranian actress Mina Kavani guides us through this narrative, drawing parallels between her own expatriate experience and Picasso's.
